“For You Guys, I Can Do Anything”
Meet Joaquin, Our Moonwatch Winner
Joaquin Bas didn’t expect to win.
“I’ve never won anything in my life,” he says with a quiet laugh. “Not even at casinos. I don’t usually do this kind of thing. But when I saw the Moonwatch, I thought, why not. It was on my bucket list. Let me waste $40 — I know I’m not gonna win — but let’s try.”
Joaquin is 69 years old. He’s worked his whole life in aerospace quality control. “Aircraft, rockets — that’s been my world. That’s what I know.” He moved to the U.S. from Havana in 2005, but back in Cuba, despite being an aviation engineer, he drove taxis. “I actually made more money driving than I did as an engineer,” he says. “You adapt.”
Joaquin has been following The Time Teller for a long time. When he heard about the Wolf Watch Club competition, something felt different.
“We know you’re legit. People around me know you are legit. That makes a difference.”
And the Moonwatch? It wasn’t just a nice-to-have. “That watch was my bucket list,” he says, his voice warming.
“I’m not a rich person. But I know how to save. The only thing that stopped me before was the size of the watch.”
Now, he’s already imagining it on his wrist. “I just bought a Panerai. It’s massive. So I know the Moonwatch will fit well. And I know everything about that watch. Everything.”
This isn’t just about watches, though. Joaquin is the kind of person who uses his hands. “I’ve made my own straps. I work on my watches with my hands. I love that kind of stuff.” He’s also a reader — “Every night. There is no night that I don’t read. I love literature.”
He didn’t expect to win. But he did. And it meant something real.
“For you guys, this present that you gave me — I can do anything.”
We’re proud to have you in the Wolf Pack, Joaquin.
